quite some politics going on despite the quotidian ways they manifest. was quite impressed how film was used to capture the mundanity of life and the medium itself. when the protagonists' friends all set out for college, he lolls across the floor of his bedroom, while the camera's empty frames span the solitary room, capturing his idleness while creating the same visual-temporal experience for the audience. the multilayered ennui comes full circle when his girlfriend comes up and invites the boredom-ridden protagonist to the cinema -- as if duplicating the 1930 japanese middle-class's own banal, empty impotence amid an ultramilitarist, grandiose imperial project
